I can’t think of a better New Year’s Resolution than to try to live up to the gentle truths of my father’s philosophy, so I’d like to offer them to you in this little poem I wrote about him, both as a loving remembrance, and as a tribute to the kind of old fashioned values that could change the world for the better in a heartbeat, if we could only find the courage to believe it would make the difference.

Love God
Love your fellow man
Follow your heart and your conscience
Don’t hurt anyone
Be decent
Don’t take what’s not yours
Respect all life.
Fight for everybody’s rights
Not just your own.
Own up
Live in balance
Learn to forgive.
Forget what you don’t want to carry
Measure people by their choices
And by the size of their hearts
Not their wallets
Don’t bellyache
Don’t give in to bullies
Don’t give up
Share what you have
Be grateful
Love your family.
Be generous of heart.
Be kind. Always. No matter what.
Love life.

Really fab. poem, Aunt Cathy!
I remember your dad a little bit. I know my mom spoke so very highly of him. I wish they were still here, too! xoxo Laura
So glad you liked the poem…hope you like the one in my new blog, too.! I wish all those we’ve loved could be here with us to ring in the New Year…I miss them always, but the holidays are hardest of all, I think.
