Once upon a time…
Once Upon a Time…
Before cell phones and iPads and a minute to minute nonstop barrage of information zinging in at you from cyberspace, there was something called Living. Everybody did it.
Not just making a living, mind you, but actually living it. It happened at varying speeds. Sometimes slow enough to savor, sometimes
ratcheted up by necessity or inspiration. But time came to us all in digestible bites. Human-sized bites. It wasn’t force-fed. You could taste it on the tongue, digest it and feel nourished.
There were tools for this living business – garden swings, meadow walks, pumpkin patches, Christmas tree farms.
Snow falling on forests, fine beach days with family, lovers and rocking chairs on a shady veranda.
Nobody’s fingers flew over a device unless it was a guitar or piano. Nobody’s eyes were riveted to a tiny glowing screen.
Let’s save some of all that for our children’s children…
and when the world laughs at us and says, “but what about progress?”
Tell them this is progress for the human spirit.
