Living in a Haunted House
Once upon a time (although this is a true story) I moved into a gorgeous house in a city that shall be nameless.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know at the time that something ancient and dangerous already lived there.
Our two cats died mysteriously… two people were pushed down the stairs by an unseen hand… I was nearly pushed through a 4th story floor-to-ceiling window.
Friends and family heard strange sounds and saw varied apparitions often enough to have them all quite spooked and wary of visiting.
I’m Irish. I figured I could handle a few haunts. I was so wrong about that.
De-Haunting We Will Go?
I had friends in high mystic places, so I asked for help. A Native American Pipe Carrier, a priest, a Chinese Feng Shui expert, a famous psychic house dowser, a Hawaiian Kahuna, Sai Baba’s personal doctor – all tried to rid the house of its obstreperous incorporeal tenant. All failed.
Research revealed many things I should have investigated beforehand…like the fact that it was on the Haunted House Register…who knew there even was such a thing!?
On the Trail of Truth
As events escalated, more desperate research unearthed the fact that in the 1800’s, corrupt city officials had allowed both a cemetery and a sacred spring belonging to the local Native American tribal people, to be illegally covered over and built upon.
Several other houses on the block were also haunted by uneasy spirits but everyone was afraid to talk about it because of the prime real estate location and property values that might plummet if the truth were known.
Once I’d begun my inquiry neighbors began to fess up and I uncovered the fact that a cult had once owned the place and a mysterious death had taken place there.
Good news was in short supply and the place felt increasingly ominous… the apparitions seen by visitors were accelerating and at night all hell seemed to break loose.
The Solution
Freeing us from the house and the entity that guarded it wasn’t easy. It took 2½ years and the intervention of the Grandmother/elders of the local tribes whose Sacred Spring had been desecrated to solve the riddle of why and how to deal with it.
A powerful California Mystic and Healer and two other psychic heavy hitters were also part of the battle team. As always with such spiritual trials, there was a lot to learn and a lot to do to make it turn out the right way!
I’ve begun to write the story as a novel based on fact… because it’s such a strange tale, I think it may be easier to accept it as an entertaining piece of fiction than as a scary real life adventure!
P.S. neither of the houses shown here are the one in my story, they’re just here for a bit of spooky decoration…
