1st Fact:

The Spear of Longinus is a genuine historical artifact that has been passed from hand to hand through the centuries since the Crucifixion.  It has been owned by many powerful rulers, each of whom, like Hitler, believed it bestowed the power to rule the world.  Each of the rulers mentioned in Lark’s Labyrinth actually  possessed the Spear and history has confirmed their bizarre connection to it.

2nd Fact:

There are actually several spears that have surfaced over the centuries, purporting to be that of Longinus the Centurian who pierced Christ’s side with it, as he hung on the cross. Needless to say, no one knows which, if any, is the genuine Jesus Spear.  But the one that became Hitler’s obsession, which he called The Heilege Lanze or Holy Lance, is the one that launched me into my research and then into the creation of my story.

The history and legends that had grown around this sacred artifact were my entry into Lark’s Labyrinth and a journey of more than a decade spent following the trail of one of the most extraordinary obsessions of history.
