It’s All in the Eye of the Beholder!
An Excess of Love
It’s All in the Eye of the Beholder
Some irreverent wit has said that if all the nations of the world were asked to write an essay on Camels, the French would write, “The Camel and Lovemaking,” the English would write, “The Camel and Parliament,” the Germans would write, “The Camel and Industry” and the Irish would write “The Camel and the Fight for Irish Freedom.”
We Irish are a bit obsessed with the subject of freedom, I have to admit. But I’m hoping that once you’ve read An Excess of Love, you’ll understand in your heart of hearts just where that obsession came from.
The Easter Rising
In An Excess of Love, I’ve kept the facts of the 1916 Easter Rising and its causes as factual as possible, but have taken the liberty of adding a few of my own characters into the mix. On the theory that a time of such high passions deserves great love stories, I’ve imagined three very different couples, each with a tale to tell of unquenchable love against the impossible odds.
Love Has Many Faces
An Excess of Love is really about love in its many guises. The love of men and women for each other, the love that exists between sisters, the love of country are the essence of my story.
Truth is, the kind of love that would really gladden my heart is to learn that you love my story!
